WHO WE ARE :

Over the years the Agricultural industry has implemented different types of techniques in feeding the growing human population yet it still strives to be the top non-oil produce in the country,At Moor farms we research these techniques in order to ensure that our customers are getting the best and freshest produce straight from our farms to all parts of the country without compromising the quality of our harvested crops.

Moor Farms is the leading integrated Organic farm in Nigeria specialising in the farming of Fish, Poultry, Snails, Fruits, VegetablesGrains, Tubers and Legumes across different geographical zones.

Established in 2010, Moor Farms takes pride in and distinguishes itself by being a fully organic farm with the ethos ‘ to farm in a sustainable and eco friendly manner avoiding the use of synthetic chemicals, fertilisers, hormones and antibiotics in production.’

Why organic?

We believe that organic is the best approach for sustainable and ethical farming.  Organic means being kinder to the environment, providing the best feeds and growth aids to our animals and plants and of course providing the best quality to our customers who consume our produce.

Antibiotics, hormones, pesticides and fertilisers are commonly used in non-organic (mainstream) farming for various reasons:

-       Antibiotics are used to treat disease in animals but are also used on healthy stock to promote growth and in turn increase the quality and quantity of meat produced.

-       Hormones in animal feed can be both natural and synthetic chemicals. In non-organic farms hormones may be administered to speed up the rate at which animals grow and gain weight resulting in a shorter time to maturity and a reduction in the amount of feed eaten by the animal before slaughter.

-       Pesticides are used to control weeds, insect infestation and diseases in plants.  A lack of control of these factors leads to reduced crop yields and less efficient harvests.

-       Fertilisers are used to replace the nutrients lost when plants are harvested.  Nutrients are aboslutely necessary for the healthy growth of plants however the majority of fertilisers are chemically synthesised ie not obtained from natural sources.

The use of antibiotics, hormones, pesticides and fertilisers ultimately helps to increase the profitability of thefarming industry.  However there are real and documented concerns around the secondary exposure of humans to these substances through consumption.  Eating meat treated with antibiotics may lead to resistance in humans;  Hormones, which may be natural but also, often synthetic, are given to animals in doses higher than they would be found in a natural environment thereby exposing consumers of these produce to unknown dangers.  In the same way synthetically produced pesticides and fertilisers when consumed may also pose unknown risks to humans who consume them.

WHAT WE DO:

We are intergrated Organic Farmers, operating various animal farms in Awka Anambra state ,Cereals and grains in Otukpa ,Benue state, fruits and vegetables from our location whiich is in the outskirts of Abeaokuta ,Ogun state. Our farming company focuses on quality organic farming and maximum satisfaction for our consumers .

The Moor Farms' way

At Moor Farms we have chosen a different approach to farming which is firmly grounded in organic principles.  Significant resources have been and continue to be committed to the research and development of viable natural alternatives to manage disease in and encourage growth of our livestock and produce.  Our alternatives are 100% organic and due to our integrated operations our different farms are able to complement each otherin a symbiotic manner that is environmentally sustainable as well as organic.  For example we utilize unused fruits and vegetables to feed our fish, poultry and snails.  In turn the waste matter generated from our livestock is used to fertilise our crops and vegetables.

We manage all processes with an organic approach and we also, strictly adhere to the Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) methodology across our Farms and food processing centers as well as Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS) such as HACCP.  We do these to ensure that our produce meets the highest internationally accepted safety and quality standards, consistently. Our stringent record keeping and practice of producing and processing in batches ensures and reinforces inherent traceability requirements.
